Hi, I'm DeeDee
Ten years ago my husband and I started a business that gave me the freedom to choose the stay at home mom life. As a self-identified hustler, being a "just a mom" wasn't enough for me. I longed to create something that I could call my own-- so I worked my butt off to become a nutrition coach while raising my kiddos. Somehow while growing both our businesses, my husband and I racked up a total of 55k of debt. We had always been so responsible with our money so naturally we were confused about why we couldn't make ends meet even though we both worked so hard. We felt lost and hopeless. So I applied for a stable job to attack the debt with my husband. We chose to follow the snowball debt method from Financial Peace University. In November of 2019 (exactly 10 months later) we became debt-free (not including the mortgage). It gave us 4 months to save up for our emergency fund before covid hit in March 2020. The timing could not have been better!
In August of 2020 we decided to sell our home in SoCal for a simpler life in Austin, TX. The real estate market was hot for sellers and we were able to make out with 283k after 9 years in our first home. With that money we bought our TX home with all CASH (sight unseen!) so that we could be 100% debt-free, not even a mortgage.
The goal was to put both kids in public school so I could make a ton of money loading up on clients. But when I got here, I realized how much I enjoyed the peace of debt-free living that I felt compelled to quit my job instead. Fascinating thing is, I didn't see the point to making more money. I couldn't believe I was actually considering this. Finding my identity and worth in what I do, I felt so conflicted about this decision but I knew deep in my heart that I needed to work on my mental health and heal from the belief that what I do is who I am. I want to believe that who I am leads to what I do from the abundance of my already enough-ness. I now feel called (I'm a Christ believer) to share my thoughts on this blog as I figure all that out without a "real job". It's been one uncomfortable ride but so far I'm thankful that I have the option to choose this lifestyle.
I often ask tough (spicy! ) questions, share stories and data analysis that will *hopefully* help you break free from stupid food rules, financial debt, and the habits that are holding you back from living the life you want with the people you love the most. Here you will be challenged in ways that grow your understanding of yourself and the world we live in -- ultimately leading you OUT of the rat race and into a life where you can find REAL rest and JOY for your soul. So if I get EXTRA spicy, remember I talk like that to get you THINK about the decision you are CONSIDERING. That's what it took for me to think about it and now it's my turn to pay it forward.
